In a developing country like India with it's multitudes of millions - mostly living at the edge of society and on a day to day existence - the opportunity to participate in sustainable nation building by engaging oneself at the social level has never been greater.

Open any newspaper, watch any news on television - and we face a daily assault on our sensitivities by being exposed to the ills of society. There are only two options - turn away and bury our conscience or to do something about it.

Fortunately - the need to do need not be based on grand plans and dreams. It can be a simple aim to bring a smile to the face of just one living being every day...

To support any willing and voluntary staff endeavour the Writer Social Service Initiative Program was launched in 2001. The intention is to fund and support employees' initiatives into their "pet" projects - be it alleviating cruelty to animals, tree planting, street child benefit programs, theatre groups, etc.

With an annual budget of Rs. 25 lakhs we hope to encourage employee participation in a wider social spectrum.
