Martin Luther once said, "I have a dream." The 1970s Pop Group ABBA sang, "I have a dream." And everyday in India, millions of people including children dream. Of literacy, a vocation……a better life.

Because of circumstances - almost entirely beyond their control, they live in inhuman conditions, on the edge of society, and daily face an unfair proportion of hardship at the physical, mental and spiritual levels. Three years into the 21st century, the need to reach out and help make a difference whils't building a sustainable future for unborn generations - has never been greater.

You and me - both have the option either to turn a blind eye or to reach out a hand and help make a difference. Your support need not require hours of social service or creating grand plans. In the end it's remarkably easy to bring a smile to someone's face.

The Writer Foundation, the community welfare program of the Writer Group, oversees and supports several Non-Government Organization (NGO) initiatives in the areas of welfare and education of underprivileged children, upliftment of downtrodden women, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, conservation of flora and fauna, among others.

A small contribution from you in cash, kind or time, to any of these social causes or institutions can make a big difference. It can help educate a child on the street, give a battered woman the chance to learn a skill and stand on her feet, or help ease the stress on an alcoholic or drug addict. In short, re-kindle that candle of hope that burns within them, bring a smile to their faces, help make their dreams a reality.
